The centre of Farnborough is currently undergoing an £80 million regeneration. Fourteen acres of the existing shopping area is being re-shaped and improved to meet today’s demands.
New retail outlets are being built, but the new Farnborough town centre will be far more than a place to shop. In addition to a Sainsbury’s store and 125,000 square feet of new shops, there are to be more than 100 new apartments in the Centrus development, a Travelodge hotel, leisure facilities and proposed multi-screen cinema including bars and restaurants.
The regeneration of the centre has been spurred by Farnborough’s affluence and success. Business thrives here, with major employers in the town attracting around 30,000 workers, many in the aerospace and telecoms sectors. The recently regenerated Farnborough Business Park, on an historic Ministry of Defence site, is part of the town’s ongoing growth.
Now Farnborough will have a centre worthy of its importance in the region, reflecting the high-tech industries located there.
